Maumee Rotary’s Charity Auction Promises Plenty Of Fun On February 20
BY NANCY GAGNET — MIRROR REPORTER
The Maumee Rotary club’s charity auction – the organization’s biggest annual fund-raiser – is slated for Saturday, February 20.
Up for grabs at this year’s auction are big-ticket items such as a vacation to the Wyndham Palm Resort and Spa in Pampano Beach, Fla., a Hilton Head Island vacation and a one-year YMCA max membership.
In addition, there will be hundreds of gift certificates and gift baskets from local businesses and restaurants.
Proceeds benefit the Maumee Rotary Service Foundation, which supports local and international projects.
“The success of the Rotary foundation allows us to make a big difference in many people’s lives every single year,” explained Rotary member Greg Fish, chair of the Rotary Service Foundation.
The Maumee Rotary consists of 85 active members, and with the theme “Service Above Self,” they hope to gain the kind of support as in past years.
This is the 29th year for the auction, and last year’s event netted approximately $77,000, Fish said.
The group has provided more than $18,000 annually in college scholarships, $100,000 to fund the Centennial Pavilion at Side Cut Metropark and over $50,000 to build houses for Habitat for Humanity.
The organization supported special playground equipment for the physically challenged at Wayne Trail Elementary School, the purchase of two transportation vans and furnishings for the Maumee Senior Center, and the creation of a children’s area at the Maumee Branch Library modeled after Side Cut Metropark.
The Maumee Rotary also worked with a local church to provide financial assistance to an organization working in Bosnia to remove land mines, and has supported projects in Haiti, Honduras and Guatemala.
“We mostly support the local community, but we do quite a bit internationally as well,” Fish said.

The Maumee Rotary charity auction will take place Saturday, February 20 at The Pinnacle in Maumee.
The event begins at 5:00 p.m. with a reception and complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres. Silent auction and live auction tables will be open for review. Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. with the auction to follow.
Tickets cost $75.00 per person and must be purchased by Monday, February 15. For information, contact Greg Fish at (419) 385-4678 or gfish@southtoledogolf.com.
All proceeds benefit the Maumee Rotary Service Foundation.
