Mark Spychala
Mark J. Spychala, age 50, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 16.
Born on January 27, 1960, the fourth child of Martin and Dorothy (Montz) Spychala, he was a self-employed handyman as well as an outdoorsman and enjoyed fixing thing for family and friends. He was a San Francisco 49ers fan and a NASCAR enthusiast.
Mr. Spychala was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Martin and Helen Spychala and Casper and Mary Montz; aunt, Esther Viens; uncle, Eugene Montz; and stepmother, Nancy Spychala. He is survived by siblings and in-laws, Michael Spychala, Bob and Linda Spychala, Mary Jo and Bob Zeisloft, Sue Spychala and Cappy Johnson, Scott and former wife Karin Spychala and their daughter, Helena; aunt and uncle, Pat and Jim Spychala (Maumee); seven cousins; and one stepbrother.
Family and friends attended a memorial service on February 25 at the W. K. Sujkowski & Sons Funeral Home. Interment was private. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 800 S. Detroit Ave., Toledo, OH 43609.
Linda Barnett
Linda Marie (May) Barnett, age 44, of Seven Hills, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, February 21.
Surviving are her husband of 20 years, Alan Barnett, of Seven Hills; sons, Timothy and Kevin Barnett, also of Seven Hills; sisters Janice Bruck, Laura Dumkow and Marilyn Gibson (Maumee); brothers, Garry and Larry May; and mother, Beulah May. She was preceded in death by her father, A. Joseph May.
Family and friends will be received from noon until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, at Busch Funeral Home, 7501 Ridge Rd. in Parma, where the funeral service will begin at 3:00 pm. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 13, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Maybee, Mich., with Father Robert Bauer officiating, followed immediately by a luncheon in the church hall. Joyce Gustafson
Joyce E. Gustafson, age 76, of Swanton and formerly of Maumee, passed away on Wednesday, February 24.
Born on July 4, 1933, in Lansing, Mich., to Howard and Francis (Ek) Koehrman, she married her childhood sweetheart, Stanley Gustafson, on November 24, 1951. They were married for 32 years until his passing on December 26, 1983. Together they had five children.
Mrs. Gustafson is survived by her children, Deborah (Donald) Miner, of Suffield, Conn., Cynthia (Jeffrey) Nissen, of Toledo, Elizabeth Gustafson, of Whitehouse, Andrew (Julie) Gustafson, of Whitehouse, and Benson (Kathleen) Gustafson, of Swanton; sisters, Viberta (Alan) Conn and Marilyn (John) Lewis; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and four grandchildren.
Family and friends were received on March 1 at the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home, where services took place on March 2. Interment was in Ft. Meigs Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Toledo Zoo or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Richard Vroman
Richard W. Vroman, age 79, of Maumee, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 24.
Born in Burgoon, Ohio, on March 18, 1930, to Orvis and Garnet (Ellenberger) Vroman, he was a 1948 graduate of Jackson-Burgoon High School, where he was an accomplished athlete, playing baseball, basketball and six-man football. He married Dorothy Zucker on December 11, 1949, at Zion Reformed Church in Bettsville, Ohio. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Mr. Vroman worked for Hewitt Robbins in Fremont from 1948 to 1965. He then worked for Ford Motor Co. in Monroe, Mich., from 1965 until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of St. Petri’s Lutheran Church in Toledo.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Vroman is survived by his daughters, Christine (Richard) Bird, of Dundee, Mich., Charlene (Michael) Trabbic, of Temperance, Mich., Cynthia (Jeffrey) Reitzel, of Perrysburg, and Cheryl (Samuel) Castello, of Monroe; grandchildren, Paul, Matthew and Andrea Wierman, Gena (Brent) Keith, Anna Estep and Zachary and Alex Reitzel; brothers, Herbert (Ruth) and Bill (Judy) Vroman; and sister, Janice Vroman. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Hilma.
Friends were received on February 28 at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home in Maumee. Services took place on March 1 at St. Petri Lutheran Church, followed by burial in Smith Cemetery in Burgoon. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Petri’s Lutheran Church, Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Immanuel Lutheran Church in Jackson, Mich.
Eleanor Sayers
Eleanor V. Sayers of Maumee, passed away on Saturday, February 27, just a few days before her 85th birthday.
Born in New York City on March 2, 1925, to Gustav and Kathleen (Dougherty-MacAdam) Olson, she was always active in her church and community. She served as secretary for the Maumee Quality of Life Committee, past president of the St. Joseph Altar and Rosary Society, past chairman of the Monclova Township Zoning Commission, past president of Heartbeat of Toledo, former board member of Mom’s House and former trustee for Foundation for Life. Mrs. Sayers enjoyed gardening, camping and traveling, but her passion was reading. She often quoted Shakespeare and other poets and was an articulate and gracious person. Her family and friends will remember her for her amazing sense of humor and wit.
Surviving are her loving husband of 63 years, Joseph Sayers, whom she married on April 27, 1946 in Bronx, N.Y.; son, Thomas (Mary Lou Huseby) Sayers, of Van Nuys, Calif.; daughter, Barbara (Paul Epstein) Sayers, of Toledo; step grandchildren, Anne Epstein and David (Lori) Epstein; brothers, Gustav Olson, Henry (Dori) MacAdam and Gordon (Carol) MacAdam. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Donald Sayers.
Family and friends were received on March 3 in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home in Maumee, where funeral services began on March 4 and continued with the funeral Mass in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maumee. Ann Poellnitz
Ann P. Poellnitz, age 68, of Toledo, passed away on Thursday, February 25.
A native of Marion, Alabama, she was a 1959 graduate of Jesup W. Scott High School. She was a clerk for 35 years for the U. S. Postal Service and a member of APWU Local 170. She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Poellnitz was preceded in death by her father, John Goree; and sister, Delores Goree. She leaves precious memories to her husband, William Poellnitz, Sr.; son, William (Leslie) Poellnitz, Jr., of Maumee; daughters, Deondra Casey, Shannon Taylor and Andye-Nate’ Poellnitz-Parnell; six grandchildren; two great-grand-children; mother, Virgie Goree; sisters, Beatrice Sawyer, Esther Brady, Mary Barringer and Ruth Goree; and a host of other loving relatives and kind friends.
Friends will be received from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5, in the C. Brown Funeral Home, Inc. Chapel, 1629 Nebraska Ave. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, with wake services preceding at 10:00 a.m., from Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 1203 Girard St., with Pastor Theodis Horton officiating.
David Taylor
David A. Taylor, age 27, of Olmstead Falls, Ohio, and formerly of Whitehouse, died on Saturday, February 27.
Born in Toledo on April 12, 1982, he was a director at Direct Buy for six years. He was a sports fan, especially avid for Ohio State, the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Surviving are his mother, Debra (Jim Woodbury) Taylor; brothers, Jeffrey (Shanna) and Matthew (Ashley) Taylor; sister, Jessica Taylor; grandmother, Ruth Birk; aunt, Teresa (Reid) Parton; cousins, Kevin, Keith, Kraig and Michael; and best friends, Dank and Bella. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Birk, Sr.; and uncle, John Birk, Jr.
Family and friends will be received from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5, at Hoeflinger-Bolander Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Ave. in Oregon, where funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 6. Tributes to the family in David’s name would be appreciated.
Mildred Patton
Mildred Lucille (Baumhower) Patton, age 93, formerly of Holland, passed away on Sunday, February 28.
Born in Monclova on April 3, 1916, to John and Adeline (Bruce) Baumhower, she was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and gardening, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son, John (Juanita) Patton; daughter, Sharon (Robert) Beach; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; daughter, Beverly Barnes; brothers, John, Glen and Norm; and sister, Helen.
Family and friends were received on March 3 at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home in Maumee, where funeral services will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, followed by interment in Roth Memorial Cemetery in Monclova.
