Marcia Huff
Marcia B. Huff, age 81, of Waterville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 10, following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born to Ernest and Eliza Brooks on October 11, 1928, in Alexandria, Ohio, she worked part time at Monclova Elementary School and later at the Medical College of Ohio in the pathology department, where she made many wonderful friends. She loved to play bridge and played with several bridge clubs for more than 20 years. Mrs. Huff was known for her kind heart and caring attitude, which she lived out as a member of Hope United Methodist Church in Whitehouse, as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and by serving on the Waterville Tree Committee. She also loved to travel, visiting family and friends as often as she could, not missing any Cracker Barrel gift shops along the way. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters for more than 50 years.
Surviving are her husband of 34 years, Arthur Huff; sister, Virginia Long; daughters, Kathy (Ron) Salsbury, Chris (Doug) Stout and Karen (Warren) Leow; stepsons, Rod (Jennifer), Kyle (Barb) and Artie (Marcie) Huff; grandchildren, Jake Salsbury, Jenny Houston, Lisa Small, Leanne Poling, Gabrielle and Isabelle Huff-Falls and Brett Palmer; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends were received on July 15 at Peinert Funeral Home in Waterville and funeral services were on July 16 at Hope UMC in Whitehouse, followed by burial in Highland Memory Gardens in Waterville. Gregory Adkins
Gregory Eric Adkins, age 41, of Holland, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 11.
Born in Amherst, Ohio, on March 22, 1969, to Freddy and Isolene (Cox) Adkins, he was employed as a sales representative for Rolled Alloys. He was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed baseball, softball, golf, bowling and football. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a great friend to all who knew him. He treasured the time he spent with his son especially on the baseball field.
Mr. Adkins is survived by his son, Eric Adkins II; mother, Isolene Adkins; stepchildren, Ashlynn Reynolds and Aaron Schofield; fiancée, Lori Kent and her children, Kelly and Kyle Kent; sisters, Shirley (Jim) Sikora and Ida (Larry) Barnhart; brothers, Dwight (Sue), Cecil (Debbie), Freddy and Tim Adkins; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
Family and friends were received on July 15 in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home in Maumee, where funeral services took place on July 16. Interment followed in Springfield Township Cemetery. The family requests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.
Theresa LeFevre
Theresa Arlene “Pete” LeFevre, formerly of Maumee, passed away on Monday, July 12.
Born on August 1, 1914, in Tontogany, Ohio, to Frederick and Minnie (Eccard) Walbolt, she married Everett LeFevre in 1938 and he preceded her in death in 1965. Mrs. LeFevre was employed at The Surf and the Toledo Club for many years, retiring in 1986.
She is survived by her children, Margaret (David) Goodrich, of Manchester, Mich., Judy Hiller, of Mentor, Ohio, and Sara Jo Covert, of Toledo; grandchildren, Beth Robinson, Seth Goodrich and Hannah Goodrich; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Cayden and Chase Robinson; nephews, Daniel (Sylvia), Michael and Thomas (Margo) Walbolt; and nieces, Mary (David) Bruhn and Arlene (Wes) Keister. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Frederick and Robert Walbolt; sister, Bernice Long; sisters-in-law, Betty Hatas, Ellen Walbolt and Kathryn Walbolt; and nephew, David (Sandra) Walbolt.
Family and friends were received on July 16 at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home in Maumee, where funeral services took place on July 17. Interment was in Wakeman Cemetery in Waterville. Roger Lauer
Roger Lauer, age 55, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 12. Born on June 18, 1955, to John and Virginia Lauer, he graduated from Maumee High School.
He is survived by his brother, Martin (Barbara) Lauer; sisters, Marcene (Raymond) Ballmer and Barbara Kleeberger; nephews, Mark Lauer, Kevin Kleeberger, Matthew Lauer and Erik Lauer; great-niece, Jocelyn Kleeberger; and great-nephews, Gannon and Griffin Lauer. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends were received and funeral services were conducted on July 16 at Blanchard-Strabler Funeral Home, followed by burial in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
Rita Griffin
Rita Beatrice Griffin, age 86, of Oregon and formerly of Genoa, Ohio, died on Thursday, July 15.
Born in Toledo on September 9, 1923, to Harvey and Ruth Ann (Riopelle) Buck, she graduated from the Berkeley Beauty School in 1940 and was a self-employed beautician while raising her nine children. She then worked part time at the Browning Care Center in Waterville in her later years. She will be greatly missed by the family and friends who knew her well.
Surviving are her husband of more than 63 years, Frank Griffin; daughters, Bonita (Gary) Kaake, Patricia (Samuel) Johnson, Sandra (Richard) Schwartz, Diane (Larry) Kagy, Debra (Joseph) Skonecki and Annette (Ronald) Haar; sons, Tom (Reta), Larry (Cheryl) and Doug (Tara) Griffin; 23 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Her parents, five brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren, Mathew Haar and Clinton Zmijewski, preceded her in death.
Friends were received on July 19 in the Wells Funeral Home in Waterville. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on July 20 in St. Patrick Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, followed by entombment at Highland Memory Gardens in Waterville. The family suggests contributions to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
Leona Johnson
Leona B. Johnson, age 91, of Holland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 15.
Born in Toledo on December 29, 1918, to Siegfried and Ida (Zanter) Meyers, she loved her family, friends and baseball. She was a member of the Chester Zablocki Senior Center and Reformation Lutheran Church.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Johnson; and brother, Waldemar (Mildred) Meyers, she is survived by her niece, Joyce Meyers; nephew, Ronald (Judy) Meyers; great-niece, Karen (Anthony) Kinner; great-nephew, Aaron (Deborah) Meyers; and great-great-nieces, Gillian, Madeline and Natalie.
Friends were received and funeral services were conducted on July 20 at Newcomer Funeral Home, followed by interment in Forest Cemetery.
Mabel Ketel
Mabel M. Ketel, age 102, of Whitehouse, died on Friday, July 16.
Born on May 12, 1908, in Fulton, Ind., to Nathan and Ada Julian, she married Charles Ketel on April 16, 1929, in Wauseon. He preceded her in death in 1983. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Auburn and a past active member of the former Auburn No. 103 Eastern Stars, from which she received a 75-year pin. Her interests included sewing, crocheting and teaching others the broomstick lace stitch.
Mrs. Ketel is survived by her daughter, Jane (Robert) Ratliff, of Whitehouse; grandsons, David (Debbie) Oster, Michael (Valerie) Oster and Kevin Ratliff; and great-grandchildren, Gabby, Olivia, Sophia and Keegan. She was preceded in death by her husband and son, John Ketel.
Friends were received and funeral services were conducted on July 19 at Pinnington-McComb Funeral &Cremation Services in Auburn, Ind. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church.
Frank Zywiczynski
Frank G. Zywiczynski, age 86, of Holland, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 16.
Born in Toledo on April 6, 1924, to Frank and Mary (Leasor) Zywiczynski, he proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a P.O.W. He was attached to the 93rd Bomb Group (H) 409th Bomb Squadron known as “Ted’s Travelling Circus,” with which he participated in many bombing missions over Europe, also including the Polesti Oil Raids. Mr. Zywiczynski worked for more than 28 years for General Motors, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, where he was also an usher, and the D.A.V. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and enjoyed horses.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nellie “Sally” (Baugh); parents; and sister-in-law, Helen Zywiczynski. He will be dearly missed by his children, Steven, Anthony (Beverly) and John Zywiczynski; grandchildren, Brandi (Blake) Paucek and Tiffany, Gillian and Haley Zywiczynski; great-grandson, Carter Paucek; brothers, Norman (Pat) Zahn and Henry Zywiczynski; and sister, Theresa (Richard) Thornton.
Family and friends were received on July 21 at the W.K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, where funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, followed by the Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Lucas County Veterans Burial Corps and the Patriot Guard.
