OBITUARIES

Patti Jo Rood
Patti Jo Rood, age 55, of Haines City, Fla., and formerly of Maumee, passed away surrounded by her family and friends on Saturday, July 24.
She graduated from Maumee High School in 1973 and Bowling Green State University, from which she obtained a bachelor’s degree in marketing. She was a founder of the Lend a Paw animal shelter, as her lifelong passion was rescuing and adopting strays. An account executive for Yellow Book, she received many performance awards and worked until just weeks before her death. She loved life and especially the joy she received from her friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary (Coale) Rood, she is survived by her brother, Kevin Rood; sisters, Melanie Rood, Sharon (Gregory) Rood-Barrow and Tonya Rood; nephew, Hunter Rood; and nieces, Hannah Barrow and Renee Buckley.
A private memorial service took place on July 31 at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Maumee. The family requests memorial donations to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, OH 43551.

Betty Thomas
Betty Jane Thomas, age 85, passed away on Sunday, July 25.
Born on May 14, 1925, to Harry and Jennie Gardner, she is survived by her husband of 27 years, Leo Thomas; daughters, Mary Beckman and Monica (Tim) Foreman; grandchildren, Matthew Lusk and Elizabeth Foreman; and several stepchildren and step grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her loved ones.
Family and friends were received on July 30 in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home in Maumee. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Barbara Robertson
Barbara Robertson, age 84, died on Monday, July 26.
Born in New York City on June 6, 1926, to Kenneth and Florence (Gerhart) Crandall, she had one sister, Jane McCormick, and was schooled in Canton, Ohio, and attended Denison University. She married Peter Robertson in 1946 and they lived in Whitehouse for nearly 40 years. For the last several years (two with Peter), Mrs. Robertson enjoyed every day of assisted living at Browning Masonic Community. She loved American history and 18th century furniture and antiques.
Surviving are her daughters, Leslie (Charlie) Hoffman and Paige (Larry) Koosed; grandchildren, Ryan (Tina) Warren, Lindsey (Matt) Sweitzer, Ann (Tim) Coriden, Erin (Judd) Thomas and Mark Hoffman; and great-grandchildren, Amanda Warren, Parker and Paige Sweitzer, Pete and Danny Coriden and Bea Thomas.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no memorial service. Donations may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Browning Masonic Community in Waterville, the Maumee Valley Historical Society or the Whitehouse Historical Society.

Marcie Swartzlander
Marcie T. Swartzlander, age 80, of Whitehouse, died on Tuesday, July 27.
Born on April 25, 1930, in Morenci, Mich., to Peter and Margaret (Seibeneck) Warniment, she worked for many years at Toledo Rubber Products and Oak Openings Lodge. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Grand Rapids and the Whitehouse American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her children, Kathy (Larry) Sawicki, of Perrysburg, and Sandie (Rick) Maynhart, of Swanton; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister, Bernice Schmuhl. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Swartzlander, in 1992; parents; and four brothers.
Friends and family were received on July 29 at Peinert Funeral Home in Whitehouse. Funeral services took place on July 30 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, followed by interment in Highland Memory Gardens. The family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Whitehouse Fire Company.

Linda Carroll
Linda M. (Kasavage) Carroll, age 56, of Cincinnati and formerly of Toledo, died peacefully in her home on Wednesday, July 28, after a three-year battle with lung cancer.
Born in Toledo on January 1, 1954, she grew up in Maumee and graduated from The University of Toledo with a bachelor’s degree in art. Before raising her family, she worked at the Toledo Museum of Art and Bowling Green State University. She married the love of her life, Donald Carroll, on June 22, 1974. They raised two beautiful children, John and Elizabeth.
Mrs. Carroll was preceded in death by her father, Anthony Kasavage, Jr.; and brother, Anthony Kasavage, III. She is survived by her husband, Don; son, John (Jack), of Cleveland; daughter, Elizabeth (Liz), of Cincinnati; mother, Margaret Kasavage; brother, Phillip Kasavage; and sister, Julee Kasavage.
The family received friends on August 1 at T.P White & Sons Funeral Home in Cincinnati. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Newtown, Ohio, on August 2. Memorial donations may be made to the St. John Fisher Church Building Fund, 3227 Church St, Newtown, OH 45244.

Danny Everly
Danny C. Everly, age 43, of Maumee, passed away on Thursday, July 29, with his loving family at his side.
Born in Toledo on August 3, 1966, to William and Joyce (Hutchison) Everly, he was preceded in death by his father and the mother of his daughter, Becky Myers. He is survived by his wife, Kelly; children, Christopher, Matthew and Jacob Everly, all of Perrysburg; daughter, Danielle, of Toledo; grandchildren, Bobby and Kain; mother, Joyce Everly; brother, William Everly, Jr.; sisters, Janie (Kim) Barnes (Maumee), Bonnie (Bobby) Fitch and Penny (Will) Ocampo; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends were received and services were conducted on July 31 at Blanchard-Strabler Funeral Home, followed by burial in Roth Cemetery in Monclova Township.

Robert Kidd
Robert Leo Kidd, age 65, of Monclova, died on Thursday, July 29.
Born in Maumee on November 16, 1944, to Richard and Rosemary (Konopka) Kidd, he graduated in 1962 from Anthony Wayne High School and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962-66. Mr. Kidd was a longtime computer technician at Owens Corning and continued there after Hewlett Packard took over the computer department. He was a friend of Dr. Bob’s and was in the Whitehouse group.
Mr. Kidd is survived by his brother, Sam Kidd; sisters, Carol (Floyd) Grabarczyk and Margaret Cousino (Whitehouse); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley Dorgewycz.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 7, at the Peinert Funeral Home, 6603 Providence St., in Whitehouse.

Isabel Martin
Isabel F. Martin, age 92, of Maumee, passed away on Thursday, July 29.
Born in Canton, Ohio, to Charles and Pearle (Barrett) Fye on February 4, 1918, she was a buyer for the former Lamson’s Department Store, which helped pay for her tuition at The University of Toledo, from which she received a bachelor’s degree in sociology. She was a volunteer for the Community Chest (later the United Way), serving as a consultant. Mrs. Martin was an advisor for Chi Omega Sorority at UT for 29 years and was selected outstanding Chi Omega in Ohio. The first woman elected to the Major Corp Board of Toledo Edison, she and her husband Earl were founding members of Indian Hill Boat Club and members of Belmont Country Club.
A trustee who served on the executive committee at the South Toledo YMCA, she was involved with Maumee Valley Girl Scouts and served as a board member and on the nominating committee. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Maumee.
Mrs. Martin is survived by her daughters, Carol Rohs, of Loveland, Ohio, Nancy (Leonard) Schneider, of Maumee, and Linda Martin, of Blanchester, Ohio; grandchildren, Ronald (Therese) Schneider, Andrew Schneider, Laura (John) Hoevener and Todd (Katie) Rohs; great-grandchildren, Melinda and Lauren Schneider, Daniel, Anna and Morgan Hoevener and Harrison and Camilla Rohs; and special friends, Jill Girard and Renee Murphy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Martin; parents; son-in-law, Donald Rohs; and brother, Harold Fye.
Funeral services took place on August 2 at First Presbyterian Church in Maumee. The family requests memorial contributions to The University of Toledo Eberle Center for Women or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

Joyce Weber
Joyce Fae Weber, age 82, of Waterville and formerly of Grand Rapids, died on Saturday, July 31.
Born on June 19, 1928, to Lewis and Amelia Finkenbiner in Sylvania, she was a beautician in Waterville for nearly 60 years and owned Joyce’s Beaute Shoppe for more than 50 years. She was known to pick up her customers who did not drive and on Fridays it was a custom to also go out to eat lunch with them. Mrs. Weber was a central committee person for the Lucas County Democrat Party, held office in the Waterville Democrat Club, was a member of the Anthony Wayne Democrat Club and was an election worker for many years in the area. She was also a member of the Waterville Fire Auxiliary and Whitehouse American Legion 384 Auxiliary. One of her favorite things was to have reunions and she arranged the events for the Grand Rapids class of ’46 and the Finkenbiner and Weber families. She was a big Detroit Tigers fan as well as a fan of golf and Tiger Woods.
She married Richard Weber, Sr., on June 30, 1946 in Grand Rapids; he preceded her in death on July 13, 1992. Surviving are her daughter, Judith (Ray) Carter; son, Richard (Patricia) Weber; grandchildren, Susan (Steve) Haas, Scott (Jodi) Weber, Jamie (Angie) Weber, Julie (Ron) Gaines, Chris (Amanda) Weber and Brett, Scott and Melissa Carter; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister-in-law, Ann Finkenbiner; and nieces, Jill (Doug) Cone and Amy (Scott) Huntsman. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Budd and George (Ted) Finkenbiner; and son, Robert (Karen) Weber.
Friends and family were received on August 3 at Peinert Funeral Home in Whitehouse, where services took place on August 4, followed by interment in Whitehouse Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

Charles Hazlett
Charles Hazlett, age 51, of Springfield Township, died on Sunday, August 1.
Born in Toledo on July 20, 1959, he was a U.S. Army veteran and enjoyed motorcycles, fishing and stunt driving. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Hazlett; daughter, Chyrstal Hazlett; mother, Marie (Thomas) Meyers; sisters, Robin (Jay) Oldham, Rovena (Richard Rechtine) Barnes, Renee (Joe) Attaway and Tammy (Jessie) Carpenter; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. until the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 6 at Blanchard-Strabler Funeral Home, 1163 W. Sylvania Ave. in Toledo.
